...and Welcome, Whomper

Maybe it's too soon, but the empty cage was making us all feel funny.

So baldly stated, this hamster transaction. There's the food. Then there's the unfortunately named "Hamsteroids," an outsized hamster treat for power nibbling. Then there's the hamster itself. 9.99. Less than ten dollars for a mohawked, whiskered, tufty-butted, whimsical little man. People, I love hamsters. It goes against all sense and reason--the blank, beady eyes, the inexorable movement toward escape. They take everything from us, and give nothing back. But somehow, this household feels incomplete without one.

Now that makes me happy. He's a handsome little fella! Now all you need is the kitty. I still have to discuss that with you. Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you about certain things. I'm tryin' sista!

Rather than try to explain it all again here, please visit my blog or the Cafe and you'll discover that two people we adore need our love and support. When you have time, also turn on CNN and watch the breaking news weather reports out of Arkansas. Little Rock is being pounded and this time I'm scared. It's been hit so many times it's like one giant red blob. I know they're most likely in basement shelters and going to be there a long, long time. Let's cross our fingers they're safe and their homes survive.

Coming here helped me exhale. It's nice to know we have a new family member! Tell him Aunt Suzie already love him!

XO

It's been such a busy day and I still have some watering to do and the gang has to be fed, etc.. This list never, ever ends. I popped by the computer to check on Arkansas, check the blogs, etc., and saw your comment. I popped on over to your house to say hi and for some reason started reading your "favorite posts." Once I started I couldn't stop. I felt transported in some way and every post brought me closer and closer to your heart. I'm exhausted and it was so lovely to just sit and enjoy the journey of a wonderful friend. The way you love your husband and little girl, your sister, your father, your violin, you family, books, knowledge, the cabin in the Adirondacks, your crafts, your home and neighborhood. I kept getting a lump in my throat, but it didn't prevent me from reading.

I was reminded how grateful I am for your friendship. The way you make me think and laugh. The way you make me search the dictionary more often than I'd like. Your honesty and humor. The way you love animals, people, life and roses! Somehow we found one another in this big old world and it matters. That's why I'm writing this. I want you to know.

Love you Leah, and thank your for the past hour of my life. It's been an absolute joy.

XO

Of course...why wouldn't I? "Thank you," not "thank your." See, some things never change!

welcome to whomper!
another great name, too.
empty cages are just so sad, aren't they....when our rabbit wandered off some years ago i missed him but it was the empty cage that made me go and get another bunny.

Oh, Leah. I'm just not a hamster person, but this little guy is kind of cute.

And welcome to Whomper - echo to Kylie, another great name.

Not so sure about the Hamsteroids though - surely they could've thought of a better name than that? It gives me all kinds of weird images.....

Bleugh.
