A Poem in Your Pocket

Celebrate the first national Poem In Your Pocket Day!

Here's how: select a poem you love, copy or print it out, then carry it with you to share with co-workers, family, and friends today. They were really doing it up at Hedgehog's school. We were greeted at the door by a big sign saying "Do You Have a Poem in Your Pocket?" When we went in, the lower school librarians had set up a table for the kids who'd forgotten their poems, with paper, pencils, and books of poetry to choose from...Hedgehog chose "Monday's Troll" by Jack Prelutsky.

Here's mine (click on picture to read it):

I hope you'll tuck a poem in your pocket--it can even be a silly one, and/or one you've written yourself. Tell me if you do it!

I don't have a poem in my pocket today, but if I were to come up with one on the spot, it would be more of a mantra, "get me out of here, get me out of here, get me out of here..."
(I'm having one of those never-ending days at work)
Loved your pick, definately more uplifting.

Man I am such a juvenile because all I could think about was changing the word poem to banana. Sorry the teenage boy in me will never die. Then I started thinking about my favorite poem and I don't even know if I have one. All I could think of was the man from Nantucket. I need professional help.

Mr. Shife, that was the FIRST thought I had when I heard that school was doing poem in your pocket day:..."or are you just happy to see me?"... yup. I kid you not. What's wrong with the man from Nantucket poem? I think that's perfect for your pocket!!!

Hi Kim! The first sock is almost done. I'm really liking the colors--and the yarn is so nice to work with. I really recommend Koigu for socks. I've tried so many different kinds of sock yarn, and I always come back to Koigu!

Oh, I didn't know! While working late the day before yesterday I was struck by the mood, so I had to compose some verses. I didn't have time to polish them or anything, so I've been carrying them around in my pocket for a couple of days. Well, now that "a poem in your pocket" is official, I'll carry a little Emily Dickinson around to make up for lost time.

Skeeter, we'll have "poem in your pocket" week. Which Emily Dickinson?

Hi Kylie! Yup, I'm too tired to think too. That seems to be my usual state these days. Good weekend back at you lady!

I have too many poems. Robert Frost is a favorite, but I'll have to think about this and come back. And yes, I too said the famous words to myself initially "...or are you just happy to see me." When are we all gonna get outa the gutter? But I think I'm more highbrow...I didn't use the word banana, I used "a rocket." I'm shootin' for the moon baby!

XO

I've written a self-published book of poems (private project - not put them up for sale). I bought a copy for my mum for her birthday :-D

Seder tonight! Chag sameach!

Oh, lol, you posted this on the 17th, well I'm a bit late for poem day. Wouldn't have known which to choose anyway!
