Contest!

Okay, I always love when people post contests on their blogs; it feels so festive! I meant to have one for my 100th post, but got sidetracked, so here it is belatedly.

The Prize: It's a good one, too: I will knit a pair of socks for whomever wins, in the color of their choice.** Now, if you've never had hand-knit socks, I must tell you that it's a foot euphoria like no other! You have to experience it to understand it.

How to Win: Add a comment to this post describing your very favorite food (or drink for that matter). Everyone's welcome here--meat-eaters, vegans, vegetarians, and people who only eat capers and chocolate cake; teatotallers and overindulgent imbibers! (I love hearing about food, and the only ones who have discussed food to my satisfaction on their blogs are Inner Voices and Faycat...)

How the Winner Will be Chosen: I will have a totally random drawing on Monday, April 7th. So the allure of your answer has no bearing on anything! I just want to hear about your favorite food...

Okay, delightful readers (this includes those of you who have made yourselves known, and anyone who might be lurking too. Also, those in the U.S. and those abroad! Men and ladies!), please post your food descriptions and make 'em good!

**I like to use wool, so if you're allergic, you probably wouldn't like this prize. The brand I use is super-nice and comes in a gazillion colors, though, so the choice is good.

My favorite food is from a mediterranean restaurant we have in here in Dallas called Fadis. They have this amazing chicken dish that is sooooo good. Its basically cubed chicken breast cooked in a flavorful broth with onions and bell peppers. I'm not sure what the seasoning they use is, but it is delish~

How can I resist? My favorite food is Saag Paneer. I love the creaminess of it, and the cheese makes me so.so. happy. The fact that it's mostly spinach makes me feel righteous, although deep in my heart I know that creaminess comes at a price!

My favorite food...

Lobster... fresh out of the atlantic, while sitting at a picnic table besides the water in a coastal maine town. Steamed to perfection. Freshly drawn butter to dip it in. Lobster bibs mandatory. no silver wear. It gets even better if you start with a fresh plate of steamers and bowl of New England Clam Chowder. (its my traditional birthday dinner -- is it july yet?)

Haha. My boyfriend loves Monk! :)

Ok. This is so fun. Add me to the madness. My favourite dish is my mom's spicy pineapple curry. Sweet, tangy, and spicy all at the same time. Sooo yum. I will post the recipe one of these days.

Happy Anniversary!

Oh me me!! I have to say my all time favorite is either Smoked Catfish, or Chicken Heart and Gizzards. Odd I know but I grew up in the backwoods of Wisconsin!

p.s. I apologize to anyone I may have gaged!

I used a "gazillion" over at the Onion, and laughed when I saw you use it too, and honey, you are so much better than me at words, but it should have been "whomever," not "whoever," (because of course, more than one). I know you know that. You might want to go back and edit. Of course I'm laughing. Who would ever think I'd be correcting you!!!!!

I'll be back for the contest. I have to think. I know food!

When I went back to NY to take care of my sister's family while she was in Cape Cod, I made lasagna. I made two versions. A meat version and a veggie version. My brother came by the next day and said, I'll pay you $20 to make either! I think that says it all. Yup, it's terrific and yup, I can cook! I told him it'll cost $30.

Drink: Coka-cola in a glass bottle. When they "did away" with coke in the late 80's (do you even remember that?) I had enough stockpiled to last me through the change over, dry spell and back to classic.

My favorite food is a cuisine. I love dim sum, specifically turnip cake, the delightful flecks of treyf within make me salivate. I also love the flat noodles which have some sort of meat or shrimp in the middle and oyster sauce on the top. Sticky rice in a leaf is also delicious. I'm crazy for the preserved egg, the fat pockets, and the little cut up sweet sausage.

Hello to all!

and since i have achieved all i wanted for today (there's a first for everything :)) i can visit again to tell you about favourite foods. as i say on my blog, choosing favourites is always impossible for me so here goes with a few:
the first mango of summer
hot chips (fries) on a cold day
beer on a hot day
chocolate when i'm upset
chocolate when i'm hormonal
hot chocolate in cold weather
passionfruit cheesecake
shortbread at Christmas
raisin toast with butter oozing into it

i love food, food magazines, food tv, talking about food and eating it but for some reason i rarely see as blogworthy. it seems that you might have changed that...i can feel a post coming on :)
cheers

I like so many foods, but one of my favourite has to be a good quality marzipan! :-D

Cece said...

I'm going to agree with Suzanne and say Lasagna. But I have to have meat in mine. I love popcorn too. I eat it almost on a daily basis. Cheese OMG I love CHEESE. I eat it on almost anything. I think just food in general, and my ass proves it.

Cece said...

Oh cool, I just noticed, IV and I have the same fav food. I knew brilliant minds thought alike. They must taste alike too.

Suzanne said...

Inner Voices and Fatcat? Are you nutty lady? Hey, Cecile and I picked lasagna too and did so in a decicive manner (I.V. was all over the place with his ~ probably spilled half trying to figure out what the hell the contest was all about) and donuts. You can't pick donuts without coffee, so just donuts don't count. I want a recall. Cecile, call Gig and get me an assistant. Damnit. I'm not goin' down without a fight.

Suzanne said...

Whoops..."Faycat!"

Mr. Shife said...

Pizza is my favorite. Even bad pizza is still worth eating because it is pizza.

Gig said...

Well, I decided to add to my list:
Besides loving anything chocolate, I really must include, Pizza, could have this everyday, Lasagne, lot's of cheese and meat of course. Just like Cece. Pot Roast with mashed potatoes.
Bread and the list goes on...just about any food. Might be easier to list what I don't like,LOL

Oh, I remember real glass bottles of Coke, to die for...

This has been so much fun, thanks Leah

I'm looking forward to summer here in New Jersey. That's when I'll have Jersey corn, with a basil butter spread, and Jersey tomatoes with fresh basil and mozarella, with some organic extra virgin olive oil. And just for a moment, all of the cotton wool, cardboard winter tomatoes will be gone forever.

Suzanne said...

Just came back to check and reread the post. I guess I should have read rather than skim last night in an effort not to talk out of the side of my mouth. Okay so neither I.V. or Faycat are the Golden Child yet. That means I still have a prayer. Oh, and just so you know, over on Gig's blog she said I'm #1. I think that should count for something (because I have NEVER been #1). I'm only 5'2", but wear a size 7 shoe(it was the 50's, Mom smoked, obviously I was supposed to be taller) and I like pink, or green, or white or, purple, or blue...I'm also partial to peach...oh, and I LOVE AQUA!!! I prefer organic wool with a natural plant based dye. Start knittin' honey!!! However, in the event I'm not selected, I will challenge the winner to a duel. Well, okay, I don't own a gun, I'm a pacifist, but I play one mean game of tennis. Tennis it is my friend! The winner takes all...both socks! AND the loser has to cook the winner's favorite meal as well! I'll see you all at my place around 6pm next Sunday. My friend will be serving us veggie lasagna and lots of salad. Oh, and we'll get some Jersey corn from Amanda with lots of basil butter as well as tomatoes and fesh mozarella, unless she's my opponent ~ then we're screwed.

XO

WOW! This is so much fun. It has exceeded expectations. I loved reading all about everyone's favorite foods. Tomorrow at 5 p.m. NY time, I'll draw a name from a hat.

p.s. Suzanne, I'd written about IV and Faycat before anyone had posted; I was talking about their blogs, but it was weirdly worded, so I changed it. No favoritism I promise! Just a completely random drawing! And might I say again--hand-knitted socks will ROCK YOUR FEET!

Love,

Leah

Suzanne said...

I knew you changed that d*** thing. I KNEW IT!!! I thought to myself..."I could not have been that stupid!!!" But thanks for toying with me. Okay, I challenge you to a tennis duel! I will literally kick your a**. And by the way, I will enjoy every second. And yes, I am a pacifist, but I'm a pacifist, pacisfist. Let the game begin.

Suzanne said...

Honey, please don't pick my name. Everyone will think this was rigged. It isn't, right? Should I prepare my acceptance speach or not? Okay, not. Honey, I need some socks. I'll be over at the Onion Cafe, we'll chat over something with and I.V. chaser. If you pick my name by accident, throw it back in and pick some one else. Trust me, that's okay! I'll be sitting on the sofa waiting for you, I.V. and Cheese. Please don't disappoint. I don't have all night honey!

haha. this is a fun post. my favorite food is lemonade. not a food you say, i have to disagree. the way i make it, it has so much sugar, it's more of a paste. sound so wrong, yet tastes soooo right. can't wait to hear who wins. bye.
-Christine♥

Suzanne said...

Who the hell spells speech, speach?

Suzanne said...

Was just writing about speech and read about lemonade. Lemonade isn't a food. That should be disqualified! How can I win with that sort of nonesense? No seriously. No one should be able to slime there way in on a liquid. That's just too easy. Beachbum, knock it off. I'm ahead of you if you win. If you challenge me, meet me on the court. I'll kick your a**. I have an entire bag of balls. Duck.

Beachbum said...

didn't you just say you didn't wanna win anyway?! how is big marshmallows? i like those, too. we always have them at neighborhood bondfires. yummm... those summer nights are the best. i can't wait. only a few more months left. yeaaah.

My favorite food is chocolate. All kinds in all forms. But even a basic hershey bar can hit the spot.

Drink would be home made sangria!

I won’t just tell you the category of food, I’ll even tell you where to go in the event any of you happen into the Seattle area.

North of Seattle is an upscale city called Kirkland, home to a quaint little pizza place called Coyote Creek. My order is the same each time, regardless of how hungry I am. My lovely wife warns me to be careful because I overeat and over-drink each time. I just hand her the car keys and tell her that one of us is not going to be able to drive when this is all done.

I like to order the finest pizza on earth, the Coyote Kitchen Sink, large of course. It is essentially a combination pizza, with all the toppings. However, we hold off the green peppers and onions. My wife doesn’t like green peppers and she doesn’t like me when I eat onions. Strange, I’ve eaten onions lots of times and didn’t mind my breath one bit. The best part for me is the thin crust. Unlike some, I prefer to have thin crust so that I can taste all the great toppings, especially the cheese. I am also practically famous for my liberal use of Parmesan cheese that requires that I remove the lid of the jar to distribute the proper amounts.

To ensure that I get a proper balance of vegetables, I order a Greek salad to start. Coyote Creek has an excellent dressing that they use and the capers are an added treat. The half a jar of Parmesan cheese that I dump on the top is a nice added touch as well. I’ve never actually been charged for having gone through three full jars of Parmesan cheese, but I think that the restaurant would legally be able to do so. That’s okay, I’d pay.

There is one last item that brings the experience all together. I can only describe it as an offering from heaven, the nectar of the Gods, the hair of the dog the bit you; this is the finest beer on the planet, Mac and Jack’s African Amber. This is an unfiltered amber with a taste that that is beyond compare. And trust me, I have tested many a beers in my life. It comes from a micro brew out of Redmond, Washington (home to Microsoft), and is only available in restaurants in the northwest and not in a bottle. I would bathe in this stuff if I could. It is awesome. And I only have to add just a little Parmesan cheese.

Thank you for your consideration. I have to go eat now.

My favorite food is turnip greens with ham hocks. Of course I can be easily tempted by things that go well with chili - which is almost everything. I love our local Tex-Mex restaurant. Dim Sum on weekends with the wife is really good. Best of all, Vietnamese noodle soup, Pho, is just wonderful most anytime.

Suzanne said...

Beachbum,

Yup, secretly I guess I still want to still win. Going up against your marshmellows could be a problem. We'll wait and see!

I edited and forgot to erase. That first sentence is "still" a complete mouthful. Good Lord! And for those of you who think I don't, yes, I edit.
