I looked up the whole poem, which is wonderful. However like many others I don't understand why he likens grief to an empty doorway and a maple leaf. An empty doorway maybe but a maple leaf?
There must be many empty doorways in New York homes which grieving relatives still stare at in the hope that one day their loved one will walk in as if 9/11 never happened.
