Back In

I've been due for a crush on someone other than Severus for a long time now. Robert Pattinson didn't really take. Thankfully, into the breach steps Jack White. Crushes on imaginary people, I have found, are the glue that holds my marriage together. I would say that I am as true to Sarge as anyone has ever been since the dawn of marriage, with nary a flagging faith, never an episode of indiscretion of any sort, and I would also say that he is my best and only love on this earth. However, I seem to be genetically programmed to have crushes. They're not on anyone real, but goodness are they potent.

In life, I have cast my lot in with a consummate man, a strong sort who is never ever dull, but who is always there right next to me.

In fantasy, I seem to prefer these louche sorts, pale and ironic, Byronic, perhaps in possession of a slightly weakened moral center.

Golly, will you just look at that pasty dodgy balladeer with the unfortunate white socks? I'll bet he's a biter.

A good fantasy life IS the glue that keeps our imaginations strong. A good imagination is necessary for keeping a relationship interesting. If you have a good guy, but fantasize about a bad boy, you pretty much have it all! Good for you, gorgeous!

i'm afraid i'll never understand your taste in these crushes......
so long as youre having fun, then more power to you

Hi Karen!

Sarge is kind of a bad boy too in his own way, thank goodness. But he's a good bad boy.

xo

Kylie--what is it you don't like? Pasty? Or vaguely unsavory? Or both?

lol

savannah--stop it lady, you just made me laugh and snarf my late night cup of coffee!

Hi Leah,

You know, I didn't think much of the White Stripes until Jack teamed up with Loretta Lynn. It was remarkable. Understand crushes perfectly. I have had one on Faye Wong, a now retired Chinese pop star, for about 15 years now. Have more than 40 of her albums and have even seen her in concert. Amazing. Hard to explain to others, but amazing!

Best wishes,

Skeeter

Crushes are fun just as flirting is an art form. I guess you could call him a Red Crush rather than an Orange Crush.

Can't go with you on this one, but I totally understand it.

I thought he was sitting on the sofa with a doll. She's so tiny! Then she moved. YIKES!!!

Well, it's true, he's pasty. You always pick pasty. Honey, take him for a picnic in the park or something. The boy needs a bit of sunshine and fresh air. And white socks. Of course I'm laughing. I should nominate him for "What Not To Wear," when he gets out of prison. That's a prison uniform, right?

Oh he's cute. Nice voice too. Honey, you just have fun and fantasize all you want. Life's short.

I'll tell you something funny. You didn't post a photo and I thought to self, "Self, am I supposed to fantisize about what the hell he looks like?" I was so thankful when the video appeared because it meant less work for me. Thank you!!!

XO

Oh, and who knew about Skeeter and "that woman?"

Leah said...

Skeeter--Faye Wong? I'm intrigued...

Ronda--he's my Red Crush!!!! That's perfect.

Megan--you do get it, right? It's probably not even about him specifically...The one sad part is that Sarge used to really like the White Stripes. Now I've gone and sort of ruined it for him. Still, he tries to be a good sport.

Suzy--I am SO laughing from your comment! Luckily I don't have coffee in my mouth this time. You know, you always humor me with my crushes. I really appreciate that. And yes, it totally looks like prison duds...

Beware of the bad boys, they have a habit of getting under your skin!

Leah said...

Jimmy--well do I know it, but isn't that always the best part...

Megan said...

Yep. I get it.

No matter how much you cherish your loved one, it's surely only natural to have crushes on other people if you're a normal, passionate human being. As long as those crushes don't go any further....

I may be 62, but I still get ridiculous crushes on women half my age. I don't believe any spouse who says he never looks at another woman. And as Karen says, a good fantasy life enriches a relationship.

Nothing wrong with an occasional crush. I'm still hankering after a mix of Rhettt Butler, the Scarlet Pimpernel and Professor Bauer

Brian Miller said...

lol. would have to agree with Karen...having a good imagination def helps the marriage and keeps it interesting. smiles.

His drummer got a right old set on her to.

At Burridge we're fairly open about these things and I've lost count of the times I've said, I don't care if she's old, I'd happily give Helen Mirren one.

Leah said...

nick--I agree, and the flip side is that I will tolerate idle crushes on the part of Sarge--idle is important--although I'm not sure he gets as obsessed as I do, but then again I'm a girl and I like to invent stories to go along with...

PI--funny you should mention the Scarlet Pimpernel! I am still smarting a little from my massive Pimpernel crush of yore (one the book character), and have sitting by my tv right now the Leslie Howard version...I just know I'm going to be in love all over again!

Brian--no question it keeps the marriage interesting. I would definitely argue that it is a sign of health, especially if it it is just source of joking for the other partner. It's just a little sparky, a little seductive, more than annoying or threatening.

EM--I know, the boobs on that Meg White are fantastic! I was just watching a video and checking 'em out last night!

By the way, you asked me, joking, a few weeks ago, whether we saw the Sesame Street muppets ever, living in Brooklyn as we do. The funny thing is that just last week Sesame Street came to film right outside our house, and there was a giant orange muppet hanging out! I laughed when I saw it, and thought of you.

Candie said...

Amen, you are perfectly normal! And so am I,or then the world is just mad, lol!

Old Knudsen said...

I bet he cries after he cums.

Leah said...

Candie--it's all good, whether we're both normal or the world is mad!

Old Knudsen--I bet he does too, and I always say there's nothing dead sexier than a piteously weeping man on top of you. That manly bastard Sarge will never oblige.

For me, it was always Steve Martin. Tall, funny, gray hair and a dinner suit. To die for.

Baino said...

Haha . .well of allo the crushes in all the world . . mine wouldn't be Jack White! Plus he's always got that shitty Meg hanging around, can't sing, can't smile, can't drum! Each to her own Leah, each to her own!

I always have a crush in the back of my head. Sometimes it is a female, sometimes a male.

But, John Cusack always stays with me for awhile after I see one of his movies.

And Robert Pattinson doesn't do a thing for me but Edward Cullen makes me go all stupid.

The Mistress said...

So long as he's not wearing sandals with those socks.

Leah said...

Mme DeF--actually, I know what you mean about Steve Martin--he is extremely debonair!

Baino--I think Sarge might've killed the crush last night when he pointed out to me that Jack White looks a little like a clown, but without makeup...

Maria--John Cusack is charming. And yes, Edward Cullen rather than Robert Pattinson. I know just what you mean.

MJ--could anything really make the socks worse?

muralimanohar said...

Well-don't I feel like a proud mama for introducing the two of you. But I got to him first, thank you very much!!! :p

Hey, Baino...Meg may not sing well, but it's Jack who makes her do it..and refuses to let her take drum lessons or even practice, for fear of ruining his vision. And super shy, to boot, which can kill smiles pretty fast. Kind of hard on her to call her shitty for that, I think..even my dh, who hates the WS, and is annoyed beyond belief by Jack, has stepped back from Meg, once he understood that...still hates Jack, though. He might be subliminally picking up on my mad obsession, though. Ahem. :p
