...and I don't mean the fun kind...
Here I am in bed, sick, chilly, hot, miserable, feverish, raspy throat with no one to take care of me but my useless geriatric dog, who expects me to walk him in the frigid Brooklyn air at regular intervals and couldn't be bothered, in exchange, to make me a cup of lemon zinger tea with honey...and is now too old to climb up onto the bed and keep me warm...
I'm trying to find comfort in the small things--like the fact that I am wearing a very nice, fancy soft red t-shirt that matches my soft soft red blanket--I'm the only person I know who gets dressed up for being ill--ridiculous, isn't it, but somehow it makes me feel worse to be in sweats--
I'd ask you good people to offer up your ideas for a remedy, but I can't really hobble about the kitchen to make it, so that's no good--perhaps just a virtual remedy then, something with liquor in it?--
...I think I may be a bit delirious...
Ingredients:
ReplyDelete1 qt. water
3 orange spice tea bags
1/2 C. light brown sugar
2 C. apple cider
1 1/2 C. light rum
8 cinnamon sticks
3 tsp. butter
Directions:
Pour water into a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and toss in the orange spice tea bags. Cover and let steep 5 minutes. Remove tea bags and stir in sugar, apple cider, rum, and 2 of the cinnamon sticks. Heat just to steaming -- do not boil.
Ladle hot cider into 6 mugs and drop 1/2 teaspoon butter into each. Garnish with a cinnamon "swizzle" stick.
Feel better soon!!!!!
p.s. you get ALL SIX MUGS!
ReplyDeleteMistress MJ has appropriate lounge wear for all occasions.
ReplyDeleteIn this way, she takes after her cousin who, while dying of cancer, held court and received visitors from her hospital bed dressed in a sexy peignoir trimmed with marabou.
A wee dram of Irish whiskey is helpful if you can stomach it.
Feel better... just bob
ReplyDeleteRed is my favorite color, so I'm very jealous of your soft, soft comforts.
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better. Maybe you can get yourself one of those blanket without sleeves - the Snuggie. Everyone looks so damn happy and healthy when they are wearing one.

If this disnae work then take two aspirin and call me in the morning.
Murali--you know it! Thanks for the catalogue--I've been going through it today and listening to everything, and I think I pretty much agree with all your categorizing so far.
ReplyDeleteMr. Jimmy Bastard, the soft egg, the whisky, the sex, why you're a mad genius! Thanks for stopping by; just reading the recipe made me feel much much better.
ReplyDeleteAwww, feel better soon, sweetie. Sorry I have no brilliant recipes, but when I have a fever, I don't like to eat or drink anything. I only sleep the sleep of the dead, and have fever nightmares.
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon.

ReplyDeletebrandy. straight. will at least take you on a virtual tour to someplace fantastical.
ReplyDeleteHi Leah,
ReplyDeleteI hate it when that happens. Definitely is the season for it and you all have such cold weather recently too.
Rest, chicken soup and best wishes,

Did Old K infect you? Hope it will get better soon.
ReplyDeleteI’ve still got some ointment leftover from the last infection Old Knudsen was spreading around.
ReplyDeleteShall I courier it over to you?
NSCG--that always sounds so tasty, doesn't it? I've never had one, though.
ReplyDeleteCece--no flu shot here. Next year for sure. It does suck I must say.
Idle Devil--I think I need to start drinking some hard liquor; it's really missing from my life!
Skeeter--I did make some delicious chicken soup, and it seemed to help!
Mago--I think so. When will I ever learn to steer clear of that delicious hunk of burning love? And I do mean burning...
MJ--Please do, and accept my thanks. Our prescription plan specifically declines coverage for certain sorts of ailments...
