What do Alan Rickman and sticky toffee pudding have in common?

Well, I can't put my finger on it but I will say that both featured prominently in my pre-birthday festivities.

Last night I went with a friend to see a production of "John Gabriel Borkman" with Alan Rickman and Fiona Shaw. I'm coming right out and saying that i don't like Ibsen--his plays are silly and overwrought, but on the other hand, this was so Gothic and darkly Norwegian, with shadows and snowscapes, very suggestive, and there was a staggeringly lovely scene of falling snow and a none-too-subtly erotic scene where Borkman listens in closed-eyed ecstasy to a young girl he has procured to play the piano in a private audience in his dark lair, by the light of a dripping candelabra no less...and most importantly, we had the. Best. Seats. Ever.

Not fifteen feet away from Alan Rickman at his gloomy and drawling finest. Wearing a frock coat.

We rounded out the evening with a lovely gossip over a plate of sticky toffee pudding. Have you ever had sticky toffee pudding? The experience of eating it is as erotic as the experience of listening to Alan Rickman's voice.

Sticky toffee pudding? I've never heard of it but it definitely sounds like something I'd eat... Off to MJ's to read more about it. :-)

Alan Rickman. Have nothing but smiles there.

And Ibsen sounds perfect for this time of year...

That show is playing in a fantastic venue! Crumbly walls. I, too, am not a big Ibesn fan but might go just to see Fiona Shaw. She's a British national treasure. I saw her (at BAM) doing Beckett's absurd Happy Days. I also caught Ian Mckellen as King Lear there a few years ago. And it's walking distance for you! What a treat!

Not a fan of Ibsen either, days of Hedda Gabler at Uni left a sour taste. Unlike stick toffee pudding which is orgasmic 'tis true. Especially with a mammoth dollop of triple cream. Damn, hungry now.

I've never had sticky toffee pudding. But I love Alan Rickman's seedy insouciance, it's so wonderfully laid back. Can't say I care much for Ibsen either.

It's a tough choice between AR and sticky toffee pudding. But since you normally have to share sticky toffee pudding, it has to be AR.

Lovely! I adore Rickman. Happy birthday.

I'm not an Ibsen fan, either. But Rickman rocks.

I know it's banal and cliche at this point, but he's still responsible for the best "spoon" line in film history.

Dream come true!

The only thing that would have been better is if you'd been out here the very next night for Ann Magnuson's Bowie show...but don't tell anyone I went. I'm not supposed to be spending money. :)

Had to come here to find out what Alan Rickman and sticky toffee pudding had in common- it was a tantalizing hint into your post on someon's side-bar.
I'd like to be as laid-back as Alan Rickman, and how exciting to be in such close proximity!
I've had only one claim to being near a celebrity, Elton John at Heathrow, but have had many encounters with sticky toffee pudding (dicky date! hahah!) and loved them all.

I always remember Alan Rickman in the slightly less highbrow, Robin Hood - prince of thieves, when playing the sheriff of Nottingham he uttered that line, "I want Robin's heart cut out with a spoon."

Meg--wow, the Ann Magnuson Bowie show. Now I am jealous. Very.

Sticky Toffee Pudding is one of my absolute favourites! Sublime! Have you tried the Hagen Daaz Sticky Toffee Pudding ice-cream? It's not quite as good ... but still yummy!

I haven't heard of sticky toffee pudding, but am off to google it.
