Finished Book One

While I'm working on another post, I will update with the thrilling news that I've finished Book One on my list--wasn't able to find the old copy of "In Cold Blood" that I thought was lying around here somewhere, and unfortunately had misplaced "Three Men in a Boat," so began with a book I'd been looking forward to--"Songs of Three Islands," an autobiography about mental illness in the Carnegie family. Sounds good, right?

Well, it wasn't.

If you care to read my railings against it, feel free to visit my new book journal blog, A Year of Books. If not, I'll have something new here soon...

Thanks for taking a peek, you guys! I know book reviews aren't to everyone's liking...

I've got my new pile now on the bedside table, and am trying to decide what to read next. 3 Men for some jocularity? "Daniel Deronda" to class up the joint? "Wolf Hall" has a riveting beginning, so maybe I'll go with that...

An author who isn't remotely self-aware or sufficiently aware of other people is simply wasting the reader's time. Isn't one of the main functions of a book to increase awareness of self and others?

hey leah,
i read your review. gee, if you keep on writing book reviews i might just have to get organised to read a book so i can feel literary for a second!

do you think that reviews of food magazines would have the same kind of impact?? :)
